Musical Theatre Boot Camp - London (2018)
This 6-day, intensive residential summer course in musical theatre skills will equip you with the unique skillset and knowledge needed to be competitive and to excel in the theatre industry. The programme incorporates focused training in acting, singing and movement, with talks, masterclasses and seminars designed to illuminate career pathways, build confidence and demystify the audition process.
Receive specialist training from respected Theatre Directors, Musical Directors, Choreographers and Vocal Coaches who have a wealth of experience; including commercial West End theatre, regional repertory, experimental and fringe theatre. Many of whom are also currently working within the UK’s leading drama schools and conservatoires, and know what it takes to make it!
Tailored for the 17-21 year age bracket, this course will be particularly beneficial for those interested in auditioning for drama school or conservatoire at undergraduate or postgraduate levels. Situated at Roehampton University in south-west London within easy reach of the centre, the course includes expert training plus six nights’ full board and accommodation.
MUSICAL THEATRE BOOT CAMP: COURSE STRUCTURE
60 hours of intensive tuition, rehearsals and masterclasses spread over a 6 day residential retreat.
Students will participate in group classes (including Acting, Singing, Movement and Audition Technique) in the mornings, and work through scenes and solo performance in the afternoon.
- ACTING - Explore and perform modern and classical texts, develop an understanding of practitioners techniques such as Stanislavski.
- VOICE - Increase your vocal power and clarity for speaking and performing.
- SINGING - Through ensemble and solo singing learn to interpret lyrics and improve vocal technique and skills.
- MOVEMENT - Through releasing bodily tension learn how to use your body and physicality to create characters.
- IMPROVISATION - Develop your storytelling, devising and theatre making skills.
During the course, participants will have the opportunity to explore different approaches to making new music theatre and cross arts developments, including styles used in physical theatre, mask and Commedia dell’arte, as well as traditional musical theatre and performance techniques.
Exciting anxillary talks and seminars include career development, industry structure and standards, actors’ agencies and starting your own company.
At the end of the course participants work towards presenting rehearsed scenes to students and staff (not open to the public).
WHO IS IT FOR
• Anyone aged 17 - 21 wishing to take their skills to the next level
• Those wishing to apply to drama school or conservatoire at undergraduate or postgraduate levels
• Those wishing to hone skills in specific areas, or who feel they may have gaps in their learning
• Anyone interested in developing new skillsets in musical theatre and performance.
*Musical Theatre Boot Camp is a new course from YMT and will require a minimum of 20 participants to attend the course in order to go ahead. Should there be less than 20 people booked onto the course bookers will receive a full refund of their deposit*
YMT courses are heavily subsidied by Arts Council England as well as various other brilliant funders, and as a not-for-profit organisation the course fees help us to cover our costs. The course fee covers full board accomodation, the highest quality tuition, and 24-hour pastoral care.
There are two ways you can pay your course fee: (1) In full OR (2) A deposit with three subsequent instalments.
Domestic* students - £700.00 (deposit: £100)
Overseas** students - £800.00 (deposit: £150)
*Domestic is classified as British/Irish taxpayers.
**Overseas is classified as non-British/Irish taxpayers, living outside UK or Ireland.

Buses that stop directly outside: 72, 265, 493.
Buses that stop at either Roehampton Village or Upper Richmond Road (Rosslyn Park RFC), each a short walk from the Campus on Roehampton Lane: K3, 85, 170, 337.
Travelling to the Whitelands Site Campus
Buses that stop nearby: 72, 265, 493, 170, 493. Travelling up Roehampton Lane, alight at the stop just before the junction with Danebury Avenue. Turn right down Danebury Avenue and then take the immediate left onto Holybourne Avenue. Whitelands is a minute’s walk on the right-hand side. If you are travelling from the direction of the A3 alight at the stop just after the junction with Danebury Avenue.
The nearest station is Barnes, from which it is about 15 minutes' walk from the Main Site Campus (25 minutes to Whitelands Campus), or take bus 72 or 265, which stop outside all campuses. Trains to Barnes run from Clapham Junction, London Waterloo, Staines and Windsor.
District/ Piccadilly/ Hammersmith & City lines to Hammersmith. From the tube station, go to bus stop K in the Lower Bus Station next to the shopping centre (see the map of Hammersmith Bus Station on the TfL website) and take bus 72 to all campuses.
District line to Putney Bridge. From outside the tube station, take bus 265 to all campuses.
