Trusts & Foundations

YMT is supported by a wide range of charitable Trusts and Foundations.

The Leverhulme Trust

The Leverhulme Trust supports our Training Awards, offering bursaries to students or recent graduates who wish to gain experience working on musical theatre projects with young people. Trainees come from a range of creative disciplines, and work as an assistant on one of our productions, alongside our professional artistic team. The experience, mentoring and networks that a Trainee award provides gives aspiring young practitioners their first experience of working professionally, and a head-start in their career in the arts.

The Foyle Foundation

The Foyle Foundation has supported YMT over a number of years, with grants both for core costs and specific projects. In 2010, the Foyle Foundation will fund the development of our Online Musical Theatre Library. Built as part of our new website, the Library will showcase the new work that YMT have developed in their six years of operation, as well as providing schools, community groups and theatre companies the opportunity to watch clips of our productions, read excerpts from our scripts and even license their own production of one of our new musicals. The support of the Foyle Foundation will give YMT's work a lasting legacy, and help bring new musical theatre to a wider audience.

The Garfield Weston Foundation

The Garfield Weston foundation have awarded YMT with grants in 2008 and 2010, towards the core costs of the organisation. Contribution to our core costs allows us to maintain the infrastructure we need to deliver each of our projects successfully. From fundraising to marketing, the core functions of the organisation contribute to all of our artistic work and we couldn't operate without them. The support of the Garfield Weston foundation recognises this, and helps YMT to keep developing young people and producing new work.

The Musicians' Benevolent Fund

The Musicians' Benevolent Fund has been one of YMT's longest standing and most loyal supporters. As well as providing funding for core costs since 2004, the MBF supported the commissioning of script and score for our 2007 production Dance! A cast of 40 young talented performers congregated in Belfast to rehearse and perform this exciting piece based on one of the bloodiest stories from the Old Testament, addressing an issue which is as relevant today as it was then: why should young people suffer because of where they are from or because of the family they have been born into?

The PRS Foundation for New Music

The PRS Foundation for New Music has, for several years running, supported the core work of YMT, demonstrating their belief that we are at the forefront of development for new musical theatre. We are delighted to be associated with PRS, and be working together to create new music.

The Mackintosh Foundation

Since June 2004, YMT has received a series of awards from the Mackintosh Foundation. The Mackintosh awards have gone towards supporting our artistic programme of both residential and non-residential musical theatre courses. Core funding is essential to the company. It allows us to continue to challenge the boundaries of musical theatre for young people and enables us to offer them continuous opportunities to become involved with the creation of new and original productions.

The Fidelity UK Foundation

The Fidelity UK Foundation have kindly supported the development of this website, as well as the installation of new CRM software, which will vastly increase our capacity in the office. Their contribution to our organisational development will help YMT to grow, involving more young people each year than ever before.
