NASUWT - The Teachers’ Union
YMT is delighted that NASUWT, The Teachers' Union, is to continue as our Principal Sponsor
Youth Music Theatre UK and the NASUWT, The Teachers' Union, have developed an increasingly strong relationship over the last four years. Together, we work towards innovation and excellence in teaching and learning.
NASUWT first supported YMT in 2007, sponsoring 4 projects in Scotland. At the same time YMT started developing arts-based resources for NASUWT teachers.
The following year, the level of NASUWT sponsorship was increased substantially, and, in addition to supporting further projects in Scotland, NASUWT was the main sponsor of YMT's production of Frankenstein in London. YMT also gave a well received performance at NASUWT's annual conference of Missing Mel, a show about a schoolgirl who goes missing and the effect this has on her classmates.
In 2009, NASUWT again generously increased its sponsorhip levels, and NASUWT branding was extended to all YMT projects and courses, including a new outreach programme, Music Theatre for All. YMT was also pleased that Mary Howard, Assistant General Secretary of NASUWT joined its Board of Trustees.
In 2010, NASUWT became YMT's official national sponsor. Announcing this at the Annual Conference attended by the then Minster for Schools and Learners, General Secretary Chris Keates said “The NASUWT, the UK’s largest teachers’ union is extremely committed to causes which benefit, support and celebrate the talents of young people. We have been developing a relationship with YMT over a number of years. YMT is an extremely valuable resource for teachers and schools providing the highest quality productions and development opportunities. We are very proud to be the main sponsor of YMT." At that Conference, YMT ran a further workshop and young people presented excerpts from a current project. Also in 2010 NASUWT supported YMT's London production of The Dummy Tree originally developed in collaboration with the National Theatre.
Early in 2011 YMT launched another resource for teachers and schools, its online Musical Theatre Library, and we are looking forward to another exciting year of productions, projects and outreach activity supported by NASUWT.

I gained much more confidence in myself. I learnt to cope on my own as it was only the second time I had been away from home. I made so many friends and have basically not stopped talking about the experience since I got home! It helped me learn how to communicate better with people and express myself better
