Access Fund

How to help  talented young people benefit from YMT's work, whatever their background WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT !!

YMT is committed to running an inclusive programme, and we seek to ensure this in a number of ways.

Our one week residential Skills Courses always have a number of Supported Places available and we work with national and local public bodies and charities to maximise the number of these places available.  We also accept donations which go into our Supporfted Places Fund secure in the knowledge that the donor is helping a young person to join the course.

For those taking part in our production courses, our first line of support is always to offer fundraising advice. By guiding our young people in the process of raising funds from their school, local trusts and other fundraising events, many of those who were initially struggling are able to raise their full course fee. However, we recognise that others will, despite their best efforts, be unable to. For these young people, we administer the Access Fund. This is a bursary scheme which can subsidise up to 1/3 of a young person’s course fee.

This year, with 40 young people requiring financial assistance, our Access Fund is in incredible demand, and we are anticipating a similar need in 2013. We aim to raise in the region of £20,000, and even a contribution of £1000 would subsidise the places of up to 3 young people, each receiving roughly £350, depending on their circumstance. Each of these young people will have proven their talent at auditions, but will be prevented from taking up their place in the company without financial assistance.

I am so grateful, without the access fund I would not have been able to take part in this experience which I truly believe has bettered me as a person. I have loved every second of YMT and I would love to just say thank you to everyone who made it possible.

I am a single parent on benefits and my youngest daughter, Sophie, 13 has an all-consuming passion for performing and YMT’s approach to musical theatre was a perfect training ground for her. She made many new friends, with whom she still a year later keeps in contact - so, YMT not only good for performance skills but excellent for social skills too! Long live the Access Fund - none of this would have happened without it!

Thank you! I wouldn't have been able to pull together the money needed without the help of YMT. It's lovely that anyone can take part in YMT no matter how rich or poor you are.
