Synopsis

The Movie Musical is back! Following the run-away success of La La Land in 2016, YMT's Lullaby of Broadway will go back to the beginning to find out what all of the great movie musicals, and the Broadway shows that inspired them, have in common. Expect big ballads, jazz dance, romance and glamour.

From Gene Kelly to Judy Garland, there was a time when everybody was fighting to have the greatest stars sing and dance in their biggest blockbusters. So binge on the classics - Singing in the Rain, West Side Story, Funny Girl, High Society - and get ready to create your very own show inspired by The Golden Age of musicals!

Summer Skills Courses are fun-filled 6-day summer activity holidays providing intense, creative training for anyone aged 11-21 looking to explore their potential and develop their acting, singing and dancing abilities. You'll work with top theatre professionals and create a brand new show in just a week on these exciting residential projects. You'll also receive a masterclass in audition technique (ready for the 2018 YMT auditions) and some specialist training in both voice and singing from Sarah Hayhurst (Voice Tutor at Guildford School of Acting) and Jane Streeton (Head of Singing Royal Academy of Dramatic Art). Summer Skills Courses do not require an audition - so get booking as it's first come, first served!

On YMT's Summer Skills Courses, young people will have the opportunity to:

  • Create and perform a brand new musical
  • Develop skills in acting, singing and movement
  • Work with a professional artistic team

  • Gain a Grade 6 certificate in Musical Theatre in Production from Trinity College London
  • Contribute to Arts Award or Duke of Edinburgh Award
