Professor Derek Barnes
Professor Derek Barnes is a musical director, conductor, composer and arranger who has worked extensively in the UK and abroad. He trained at the Royal Academy of Music and London Opera Centre as a singer before focusing his time on composing and conducting. Credits include numerous productions at the National Theatre (Coram Boy, Oedipus, The Royal Hunt of the Sun), in London’s West End and abroad; particularly Scandinavia.
He is a former Head of Vocal Studies at the Music Theatre Department of Gothenburg University and a former Adjunct Professor of Music Theatre Performance at Gothenburg University. He has been a Guest Lecturer at Central School of Speech and Drama in London, School of Theatre, Television and Film at San Diego State University and at Joop van den Ende Academy in Hamburg.
