Backstage courses

An amazing opportunity to work backstage at some of the best theatres in the UK

three girls sitting at desk

We are always looking for young people who are interested in backstage and technical work to join our residential projects, and be a part of the YMT company.

You will work with experienced Stage and Technical Managers in some of the country’s best theatres, to look after the backstage requirements of the project. This role is heavily tailored to your interests, and could include making and finding props and costumes, cueing the lighting, running the sound and ensuring the smooth running of the rehearsals and performances.  Working as part of a team you will gain valuable hands on experience with high production values. Assistant Stage Managers and Deputy Stage Managers can also apply.

Because of the nature of the work you must be 16 years or over on the 1st July 2012 to be eligible.

In the same way that our company of actors do, backstage company members will need to be able to pay a course fee for their residential project, to cover the costs of accommodation, food, pastoral care and all other course material. They will receive offers in the same way as the actors and will receive the same fundraising guidance and support, and course fees can be paid in instalments.

To apply, please download the application form below, complete it and return it to: Paul Griffiths, YMT, 40 Parkgate Road, London SW11 4JH. If you have any further queries, please call 0844 415 4858 or e-mail .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

You will be required to attend an interview to discuss possible dates and your interests, so that we can best match you to one of our productions.
