What happens in a YMT audition

Our audition process has been designed over the last eight years to be as welcoming, valuable and fun as possible.

It’s easy to audition. You don’t have to learn anything in advance, or worry about memorising any lines. Some people audition with a friend, but many don’t – there will be plenty of people just like you at each audition venue.

We have some incredible shows lined up for summer 2012, directed, composed and choreographed by some of the best creatives in the industry  – so don’t miss out on this unique opportunity!

The auditions take the form of 2 and a half hour workshops, led by a professional director, choreographer and musical director. They’re definitely not the sort of scary audition you might have seen on TV talent shows – the team will lead a series of practical and fun activities to help you make the most of your time, and to show the team exactly what your skills are.

When you arrive, you’ll need to hand in your registration form (you complete this after you book your slot) and two passport photos. There will be a waiting area and, if you are accompanied by a parent/carer, they are welcome to wait there with you if you like. There will be plenty of YMT team members around to answer any questions.

In the workshop, you’ll meet the auditions team, and the group will learn a song together. You will be asked to sing a few lines on your own, and you’ll learn a group dance routine. There will also be some improvised movement and drama and short scenes in groups or pairs.

After the audition, you can go home and relax! After we have held the auditions across the whole of the country we sit down to work out who will go into each production. This can be quite complicated but everyone will hear before the end of March. Please bear with us during this time: we will make sure we contact you as soon as we possibly can.
