YMT in collaboration with Shifting Sands Theatre is pleased to present an exhilarating workshop called ‘Before it Snows’ run by Gerry Flanagan, Artistic Director of Shifting Sands and the director of hit YMT shows: Great Expectations, Fool's Gold and Love & Madness. Gerry will be working with Lucie Pankhurst, YMT choreographer on: Mort, Peter Pan and Love and Madness.
Shifting Sands Theatre has developed a reputation for creating fresh, innovative interpretations of epic tales, classic texts as well as devising contemporary material.
The workshop will cover the following areas:
Games - to develop playfulness.
Improvisation - the rules of play that underpin collaborative work.
Games to develop physical and spatial awareness.
Exercises in rhythm to develop a sense of timing.
Exercises to encourage the creation and exchange of focus.
Physical self-awareness.
Presentation - playing with the audience.
A significant period of the workshop will be devoted to creating choreographed movement that will relate to the above themes.
Come and play with your talent, take pleasure in it and share it with an audience. Take risks. Be challenged. Have FUN!
Gerry has worked with YMT for many years and is respected as a performer/director/clown practitioner. He has performed with many companies including the David Glass Ensemble, Clown Selvaggio and Bubble Theatre, and is Artistic Director of Shifting Sands Theatre. He has taught clown for the last twenty years in universities, colleges, schools plus the Circus Space and the City Literary Institute, London.
YMT Choreographer, Lucie Pankhurst (Mort, Peter Pan, Love and Madness) will also be joining Gerry in the workshop. Lucie trained at the Arts Educational School and the London School of Contemporary Dance. Previous work includes: Troilus and Cressida (National directed by Trevor Nunn), Assistant Choreographer to Arlene Philips for We Will Rock You, The Fast Show Live (tour) directed by Roxanna Silbert, Drowning Point (BlueGreen Productions at the Edinburgh Festival and Regents Park Open Air Theatre). Television credits include: series choreographer Hit Me Baby One More Time, Viva Blackpool (BBC), Wedding Belles by Irvin Welsh (Channel 4), X-Factor, Dead Ringers, Bonkers and the Omid Djalili show. YMT Company members can attend the 5 1/2 hour workshop for the special reduced rate of £35. It starts at 1.00pm on the Sunday before Let it Snow, and will finish by 6.30pm.
