Starting at YMT’s Summer Camps and treading the boards ever since, Sophie Rose Miller talks about her journey!

The countdown is on to YMT’s exciting Summer Season, 2018, which includes the return of our acclaimed Musical Theatre Summer Camps (previously Summer Skills Courses). A residential project for ANYONE aged 11-17, participants take part in an intense, fun, creative training course in the performing arts by putting on a brand new musical show within a week! All YMT courses are led by a team of top theatre professionals who have a wealth of experience in West End, Fringe, International and touring theatre, making the courses, as Sophie says, “an invaluable experience for any young performer, and I honestly don’t believe there’s a better training facility out there”.

Since taking part in YMT’s Summer Camps, as well as our shows, before eventually heading to drama school, Sophie Rose Miller has amassed an impressive repertoire in the Theatre & Film industry. She has recommended YMT to friends and colleagues over the years, and has even, as she says, “already begun preparing the next generation of YMTers by telling my goddaughters and friends’ children to do a Summer Camp once they’re old enough”. From commercials to music videos, with a project soon to be aired on Channel 4, she’s on her way to the top! Sophie is currently working on a project in the West End at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s theatre, The Other Palace, and has a cabaret show coming to the Arts Theatre on the 11th of May called Voices of Power.

With YMT’s Musical Theatre Camps just around the corner, we caught up with Sophie to hear what she had to say about taking part in one of the camp courses: “Over the years I’ve had experience with a number of different companies, but there’s a reason that YMT is the one I always come back to… Getting to work with the brilliant creatives that YMT has made sure that everyone was focused and professional. It created an environment that I’ve otherwise only ever found in a professional adult theatre company”. Talking about the friends and skills she learned at Summer Camp, Sophie tells us, “everyone was at YMT to have fun, and I can honestly say that if you enjoy acting or dancing or singing, or all three, then YMT is the most incredibly fun company to be a part of”.

And as much fun as Sophie had at YMT’s Summer Camp, she also credits the company for equipping her with the necessary key skills required to get into drama school, stating “if it wasn’t for YMT, I might not have got into drama school. Obviously in part thanks to the incredible training I received on the courses but also more directly thanks to one of my YMT directors, Gemma Fairlie, who recommended I look into that particular school”. This year we are also running a bespoke Musical Theatre Boot Camp course for those aged 17-21, who are particularly interested in auditioning for drama school or conservatoire, with the aim of equipping them with the Skills Sophie learned on our course needed to get into drama school.

This year, YMT’s Musical Theatre Summer Camps are coming to Hertfordshire, Leeds, Wiltshire, Edinburgh, Surrey and London. BOOK NOW WHILE SPACES LAST! Don’t miss out on this fun, intensive, creative training course for building your confidence and providing you with essential performing arts skills.
