YMT wins funding increase from Youth Music
Youth Music announces increased funding for YMT in 2011
We are very pleased that in January 2011 Youth Music announced a substantial increase in funding for YMT for the financial year starting in April 2011. YMT became one of Youth Music's eight National Youth Music Organisations (NYMOs) in 2005, alongside the National Youth Orchestra, National Youth Choirs, Music for Youth and others. Youth Music's aim with the NYMOs is to support musical excellence and equality of opportunity for all talented young musicians through access to a strong national framework of exemplary organisations. It seeks in particular to ensure that young people in challenging circumstances have the opportunity to progress through sustained access to excellent opportunities that are additional to local or regional provision. That aim, and its specific focus, are entirely consonant with what YMT is about.
YMT's work is strongly in support of three of the Fund's four goals (the fourth relates to early years learning), which are to:
- Improve the life chances of children and young people in the most challenging circumstances by supporting them to achieve their full potential through engagement and progression in music-making.
- Realise the musical talent and potential of children and young people by ensuring opportunity for all to develop their talent regardless of background or chosen genre.
- Enable the highest quality music making, by developing a diverse, highly-skilled and inspirational workforce.
